ACUPUNCTURE
Omega spa offers a full range of acupuncture
treatments in Chinook Centre in Calgary.
Acupuncture
is an ancient form of Chinese medicine which utilizes
healing techniques that have been studied
for more that 2500 years. The term "acupuncture" describes
a group of procedures which involve the stimulation
of anatomical points on the body using a variety of
techniques. The most common method uses small, thin,
solid needles which are gently "tapped" into
place under the skin. These needles are then stimulated
by hand with a small twisting motion or with very mild
electric current. Treatment may also include acupressure/Tui-Na
massage and/or cupping to modify or prevent pain perception
and to normalize the body's physiological functions.
Acupuncture is used to promote natural healing, improve
mood and energy, reduce or relieve pain and encourage
normal function of affected areas of the body. It is
safe and effective and is often successfully used as
an alternative to medication and even surgery. Acupuncture
often targets a broad range of disorders, ailments and
diseases during the same treatment. Relief is often obtained
with acupuncture when traditional medical therapy has
failed.
During your first office visit your Acupuncturist will
speak with you at length about your health history, current
health condition, lifestyle and habits in order to gather
information which will allow her to tailor your treatment
to your needs. By answering all questions completely
and candidly you will ensure that you enjoy the maximum
benefits possible from your visit. Make sure to inform
your Acupuncturist of all medications and vitamins you
are taking as well as any treatments you are undergoing.
She will inform you of her treatment plan and may recommend
a series of treatments, which may take place over a period
of weeks.
Most people experience little or no discomfort during
and after acupuncture treatments. After treatment some
people feel energized, while others feel relaxed.
Your
first visit will last about 90 minutes in order for
your Acupuncturist to get to know you and your specific
needs and desired outcomes. Please ask her any questions
that you may have. Subsequent visits if needed will each
last about an hour.
